Place it outside all year round in alternating sun and shade, away from cold or drying winds. Sacred bamboo is suitable for all climates thanks to its hardiness. If the climate is too windy or too cold (below -12°C), protect it by wrapping the pot with wintering fabric or glass wool to protect its roots from frost.

Nandina "bambou sacre" 1-2
Nandina, also called "Sacred Bamboo" is one of the rare shrubs to have evergreen foliage, whose color changes over the seasons, going from red in spring to green in summer, and finally becoming red-orange in autumn. It offers all the nuances of autumn foliage but which does not fall!

A bonsai with bamboo leaves
It belongs to the Berberidaceae family. Its name Nandina comes from a deformation of its Japanese name: nanten. The name "sacred bamboo" recalls the oriental tradition that wanted these shrubs to be planted around temples.
The Nandina or sacred bamboo is a tree with an erect shape, with light and tall foliage. Its stiff stems are reminiscent of those of bamboo, they bear leaves with irregular and oval leaflets. The foliage, reddish when young, turns dark green during the summer to become purple again in autumn. This bonsai flowers in summer, but this flowering goes unnoticed. Its 20-30cm long white clusters of uninteresting flowers give in autumn clusters of red berries, hanging and very decorative.
