Data sheet

The oak in bonsai is a strong tree with remarkable bark, and we've been growing them for 40 years in our nursery. It's the oak of our countryside, of our forests, and contrary to popular belief, it's perfectly possible to make magnificent bonsai from it. Over the years, it develops a massive trunk with solid carpenter branches that evoke all the power of this tree. It is easy to grow.

Its foliage is marcescent, which means that in autumn, the leaves wither, curl up and turn brown but do not fall off. They will only come off the following spring, driven by the appearance of new foliage.

Cultivation Advice

Outdoors in all seasons. In summer, if you live in a hot region, prefer an easterly position with morning sun and afternoon shade.

Plenty during hot spells, the rest of the time water when the top of the substrate is dry. Do not allow the root ball to dry out and avoid watering the leaves.

Fresh soil rich in organic matter. Re-pot in spring, when the buds swell and the first leaves appear.

In winter, remove superfluous branches by chewing the cuttings. During the growing season, prune green shoots when they have 5 to 7 leaves.

Every 2 months from May to October.
