Strawberry tree
The strawberry tree, nicknamed the ‘strawberry tree’ because of its edible red-orange fruit, is an evergreen shrub appreciated in bonsai for its dark green foliage, winter flowering and decorative fruit.
In bonsai, the arbutus is distinguished by its reddish-brown bark, which peels off to reveal a smooth, colourful surface, adding a unique aesthetic dimension.
Flowering takes place from autumn to early winter and consists of small, white, bell-shaped flowers, followed by red, strawberry-shaped fruits that ripen the following spring.
To grow a bonsai tree, we recommend placing it outdoors, in a bright spot, while protecting it from extremes of temperature.
Pruning is essential to maintain a harmonious shape and encourage branching.
All in all, the bonsai tree is a captivating species, offering winter flowering and decorative fruit, while being relatively easy to maintain for bonsai enthusiasts.
