Japanese quince
Native to Japan and China, the quince is a small, thorny tree that is perfectly suited to bonsai cultivation. Appreciated for its magnificent flowering, it lights up the winter and spring months with its small, delicate flowers in white, pink, red or orange-red. This early flowering starts in January and lasts for a long time, bringing a touch of colour and life to your exterior even in the cold season.
The bonsai quince is also remarkable for its elegant foliage. The leaves, between 3 and 5 cm long, add a delicate texture and contrast beautifully with the pretty flowers. In autumn, small yellow or green fruits appear, adding further appeal. Although they are decorative, it is advisable to remove them to allow the tree to conserve its energy and maintain optimum growth.
As well as its aesthetic qualities, the quince tree is also very practical. Its natural thorns make it an excellent defensive shrub, while its fruit, although unusual in bonsai, can be used to make delicious homemade jam.
The quince tree is therefore an ideal choice for bonsai enthusiasts looking for a species that is both floriferous, ornamental and versatile. A real invitation to combine aesthetics and functionality in your collection!
