Beech bonsai

The beech is a deciduous bonsai that grows naturally in the lower mountains but also in our countryside. Its bark is grey and with age it becomes a little rougher. The foliage is marcescent, meaning that it remains attached to the tree even after the leaves have died in autumn, often until the spring swelling of the buds causes it to fall off. The beech tree in bonsai is robust and vigorous, it grows quickly although the formation of a large trunk necessarily involves cultivation in the ground, which is what we have done in our nursery. The leaves are reduced a little but not enough to create convincing small bonsai, which predestines the beech for bonsai over 50cm high. It's also a strain that lends itself wonderfully well to creating forests!
